This may also include reviewing previous remediation efforts to confirm they meet current regulatory standards as well as evaluating compliance with any continuing obligations pertaining to contamination that may remain on site after a remediation effort has been completed. 
  • Remediation and Mitigation is the planning and implementation of cleanup measures to address or otherwise control contamination identified on a property that exceeds regulatory criteria or action levels. Such measures can range from the actual removal of pollutants such as excavation and off-site disposal of impacted soil to in-situ treatments that eliminate or reduce the levels of contamination. Mitigation strategies can also be developed to reduce the risk of future exposure to environmental contaminants. These strategies might include measures to prevent contaminant spread, such as Engineering Controls, or land use controls to reduce exposure risks like Institutional Controls.
